Had Your Trisodium Phosphate Yet Today?

TSP, or trisodium phosphate, is a food additive you may not have noticed yet. I recently heard it was in the popular breakfast cereal Cheerios. Cheerios are marketed as a health food, and are also one of the most popular snacks for older babies and toddlers.

TSP is not only a common food additive, but is also used as a cleaning agent, stain remover, and degreaser. Sound like something you want to wash down with your morning breakfast? Start reading labels if you are consuming any boxed or processed foods to be sure you aren't consuming TSP. I found this bit of information on it: "Although it is the active ingredient in at least one toilet bowl cleaning tablet, TSP is generally not good for cleaning bathrooms because it can corrode metal and can damage grout." Wow! I certainly won't be feeding my toddler any TSP-laden snacks.

Cereal & Milk the best post-workout supplement?

That's what this study says from Science Daily magazine. The study was done at the University of Texas and shows that eating whole grain cereal is just as good as sports supplements after a workout for recovery.

It's amazing what results can come out of a study - but don't be fooled, this study was supported by General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition.

Hmmmm... a company that makes cereals paid for research that show results that result in increased sales, imagine that!

Always question who paid for a study when reading "scientific results", almost all studies are paid for by companies looking for something to show in their favor.

Cool, Simple & Easy

I'm far from being a cleaning expert (you can ask my wife) but I bought the Shamwow a while back. It looked cool, it looked simple and it looked easy. When I saw that guy on TV demonstrate it I was amazed and went for the phone (the only thing I ever purchased on the phone). When It came in the mail and I tried it, it was just like most rags I already use, in fact I have an old one that works a lot better. Nothing special, nothing simple nothing easy just a boring rag that's flashy orange.

A lot of times things look flashy orange in the fitness world and many people get disappointed and the true solution is to just use the rag that has always worked the one you know won't let you down.

Kidney Disease Radio Infomercial

Have you heard the new radio infomercial in order to educate people about kidney disease?

 

The infomercial goes something like this:

 

“If you could see me, I would look like this…” (no description is given)

“If you could hear me, I would sound like this…” (no sound is heard)

“If you could feel me, I would feel like this…” (no description is given)

 

I really like this infomercial.  It’s a good way to get the point across that most people with kidney disease do not experience many obvious symptoms, yet the long-term effects on the body could be very harmful.  This is not only true of kidney disease, but of multiple conditions such as hypertension, tooth decay, cancer, subluxation, etc. 

 

Unfortunately, over the years, we have been taught that symptoms or “how we feel” is how health is evaluated.  This is evident in the countless people I have met that have told me that they believe they were healthy because they “feel fine”.

 

This infomercial is step in the right direction in educating people that “how we “feel” is a poor measure of our true health.
